This is going to be a knowledge-filled and exciting training. It's very intensive. Be prepared to put in some hard work with an incredible reward at the end! Remember the best students make the best teachers.

The training will cover the following areas:

  • Alignment/adjustment of basic asanas and Classical Sun Salutation
  • Anatomy /physiology - In depth study includes compensation for injuries, medical conditions and body types.
  • Yoga philosophy - Sutras, lifestyle, ethics of teaching, etc.
  • Techniques of pranayama, basic kriyas, meditation, visualizations, chanting and breakdown of basic Sanskrit.
  • Chakras - energetic properties and postures affecting them.
  • Hands-on teaching, sequencing of postures, discussion on technique improvement and teaching to different learning styles.

PRANANDA Yoga is a Registered Yoga School (RYS) nationally certified under Yoga Alliance. When you have completed all of the training requirements and receive your certificate through PRANANDA, you then register and apply ($25/$80) through the Yoga Alliance to become a Registered Yoga Teacher.

This enables you to be hired more quickly through health clubs and studios that require this certification.

Prerequisites:

  • 6 mo. to 1 year (or equivalent*) of yoga instruction at PRANANDA
  • 100% commitment to the full 200 hours of training
  • Full payment of $2200 by November (see payment dates).
    $2000 if paid in full by August 2nd.
* A reputable studio/instructor-discretion of director

Training dates:
Fri. September 5th through Sat. March 28th
No classes September 27th, November 29th, December 20th, December 27th and one Saturday in February. An additional one to two Sunday afternoons (3 hours) may need to be added in March. The pace of the training varies with the different trainees.

Saturdays: 1:00-7:00 pm (approximately)

Joy Wolfe, Training Director
Joy Wolfe is the founder of PRANANDA and a certified yoga instructor with over fifteen years teaching experience. She has also taught anatomy and massage at the Massage School of Santa Monica. Joy has studied with such diverse teachers as Alan Finger, Rod Stryker, Erich Schiffman, and Ana Forrest. She describes her teaching style as eclectic Hatha with a strong emphasis on the breath. Care is taken to accommodate different levels of ability, body types and injuries.
